66 percent of experts disagree with surge

That's one of the more interesting finding of The Terrorism Index, a joint effort by Foreign Policy magazine and the Center for American Progress to survey terrorism and foreign policy experts, both lefty and righty, on the GWOT (are we still calling it that?).

Actually, 69 percent of the experts would like to see a surge of troops in Afghanistan, something that may be in the works already. Did you know that the number of U.S. troops there is up to 27,000 now? That place is quickly going to hell in a handbasket. 57 percent of the experts think the Taliban is getting stronger.

Other interesting findings after the jump:

->70 percent think the Bush administration does NOT have a clear plan for protecting Americans from terrorism. ->75 percent think the U.S. is NOT winning the war on terror. ->Even if Iran continues developing nuclear weapons, 61 percent of the experts opposing taking military action. ->73 percent of the experts think North Korea will transfer nuke technology to terrorists in the next five years. 62 percent said that U.S. policy on North Korea had been negative for our security. Of course, the survey was taken before the latest deal was made at the six-party talks, so that terrifying possibility could now be moot. Pakistan is next with 44 percent, so don't rest too easy. ->Tracking down terrorist financing is actually an area where the government has done well - 95 percent said that progress had been made in this area. But 84 percent saw no progress in fixing the broken detention system that led to Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo.
